The Lists

If you want to search for tunes from a particular country, of a particular type, and so on, then select the appropriate values in the lists here, and only the tunes that match that value will be listed. If no values are selected in a list, this has the same effect as selecting the 'All Values' entry.

Search for a piece of text

If you enter anything in this box then the only tunes listed will be those where a match is found for that text, in its' title, country or other data (but not in the music). The search is nothing fancy, just a simple case-insensitive substring search.
Accented characters and other character-set funnies can be entered either as html, or as a hex number prefixed by a '%' sign or as a character-literal; eg, the a-ring character (as in Gånglåt) could be sent as å or as %E5 or, if your browser is set to use the ISO8559-1 character set you can just enter å, however you type that on your keyboard.

Search for a sequence of notes

This understands "note names" as used in ABC - ie, "ABCDEFGabcdefg", optionally preceeded by "^" for sharp or "_" for flat and followed by , or ' for octaves. Everything else will be ignored.
The search is not dependent on key - it matches all tunes containing the given sequence of intervals. It pays no attention to note lengths, you can't use it to match a rhythmic pattern.

All these conditions are additive (boolean AND) - the tunes listed will be those for which all the conditions you have specified are true.
